Sadiq Poised to defeat
Moody
Akhtar Sadiq, Democratic Candidate for State Senate District 56, has won
the residency challenge brought by the Georgia Secretary of State and is poised
to win the State Senate seat occupied by Dan Moody.
“Georgian's
are sick and tired of the infighting and lack of progress at the State
Capitol. As a business consultant, my
specialty is improving results for business owners,” said Sadiq. “I promise all of my constituents that I will
improve the results for them when I am elected their State Senator.”
Sadiq was
challenged by Secretary of State Karen Handel during her sweeping attempts to
remove Democratic candidates from the ballot.
“I am thankful that today, we can continue our campaign to bring new
leadership and change to our district,” Sadiq
said. “The voters are ready, and now
that there are no barriers left, our campaign will take our message directly to
the doors of the voters.”
In 2006,
the Georgia Secretary of State honored Sadiq with the
Outstanding Leadership in the Community award as well as the Outstanding
Georgia Citizen award. Currently, Sadiq serves as the Treasurer on the Board of Directors for
the U.S. Navy League and is an Honorary Commander for the Department of
Defense.
“I am
running for State Senate because I have the skills and experience necessary to
strengthen our local community and a proven track record of working
successfully with Democrats and Republicans – something we haven't seen from
Dan Moody,” Sadiq concluded.
Sadiq
earned 48% of all votes cast in State Senate District 56 on July 15, 2008,
which shows the district is in play this fall.
Sadiq recently celebrated his 40th Wedding
Anniversary with his wife Amina. Sadiq is very proud
of his children, his daughter Fauzia, architect, and
his son Jeff, President and CEO of a real estate and investment company. Both are
